CBA10 conference participants visited BRUP field sites to experience urban community resilience building in Bangladesh

A total 53 international participants of 10th Community Based Adaptation (CBA) conference visited three communities at Tongi, Gazipur areas under Building Resilience of the Urban Poor (BRUP) on 22 and 23 April 2016. BRUP project intends to uphold the community driven resilience approaches in urban along with some innovative interventions likely engaging women as a prime force of building resilience. During the field visit visitors observed following project interventions:

- Risks informed planning by the Community Development Committee (CDC)
- Local community men and women’s livelihood activities
- Community led garbage management system
- Risk awareness and empowering women through EKATA process
- Mock drill by Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) and Urban Community Volunteer (UCV) on earthquake and firefighting
- Mass awareness on social and disaster resilience issues through Forum Theater performance
- Recovery efforts by the affected households who were affected by fire in February’16

BRUP intends to blend local knowledge with global approaches to multiply the impact of its initiative to build community resilience. BRUP is implementing all its activities by engaging the local community putting women at the center. The conference will bring down the curtain on by an indoor conference where BRUP will participate as well with its poster paper presentation.

This year 10th International Conference on Community Based-Adaptation is taking place in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 21-28 April 2016. This year the conference theme is ‘Enhancing urban community resilience’. This conference is actually a global platform to find out a long lasting, gender sensitive, eco-friendly and sustainable solution of today’s burning climate change issue. This conference is a multicultural platform to learn about multidimensional geographical and climate change issues from different aspects.
