Sarothi Rani is a struggling milk collector in Sultanpur union under Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat District. With support of the Strengthening the Dairy Value Chain project of CARE Bangladesh, Sarothi started collecting milk from the milk producer groups at Sultanpur Union and selling to different buyers in the beginning of 2008. Very recently she has started retail selling of fresh milk along with some sweets and delicacies made of fresh milk and participated at the Joypurhat Khudro Banijjo Mela, a local trade fair, with the range of these products. Sarothi’s stall, rightly named Dudh Sagor which means ‘ocean of milk’, is supplying plenty of fresh milk and other dairy products to the visitors. The stall has attracted a number of local processors such as sweet makers, chhana makers and restaurant owners as a potential supplier of quality milk, which is a great achievement for her in securing regular customers. On the first day of the fair (February 24th, 2010) Sarothi sold 5 liters of fresh milk & other milk products worth taka 694.
