March 15, 2010
CARE Bangladesh Naogaon Team facilitated a rally promoting increased milk consumption on 11th March, 2010 at Bodolgachi Upazila under Naogaon District. The initiative was part of the awareness raising activities at the local level conducted under CARE’s project on Strengthening the Dairy Value Chain in Bangladesh where a series of such rallies are being organized. The purpose of the rally was to encourage increased consumption of fresh milk among local community people, especially women and children for ‘healthy and happy life’. Around 175 people including primary school students, smallhold dairy farmers and other community people took part in the rally that started from Bodolgachi Rural Trade Fair and ended at the Upazila Complex Building. There was a discussion on importance of fresh milk consumption after the rally where veterinary surgeons of Bodolgachi Livestock Department were present.
In collaboration with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CARE is implementing the Strengthening the Dairy Value Chain (SDVC) project in Bangladesh, which aims to improve the livelihoods of 35,000 rural smallholding and landless households in nine districts of north and northwest Bangladesh by enhancing their participation in and profit from the milk value chain.
