July 21, 2010
The Dairy Technology Fair was an event of the SDVC Project of CARE Bangladesh that took place from 16 to 18 July 2010 at Shariakandi Upazila of Bogra. This is the first initiative of its kind aiming to publicize SDVC initiatives, increase awareness about dairy technologies and encourage marginalized people to continue or get into dairy business. Around 37 stalls presented dairy technology products for better milk, health of cattle and animal medicines for combating dairy diseases. Among them there was Doctors’ Agro Lab to advertise its unprecedented livestock health diagnostic services.
The Fair was inaugurated by the local member of the parliament in presence of local livestock officer, opinion leaders, CARE Bangladesh team and SDVC project coordinator. Speakers during the inauguration event talked about significance of dairy, scientific approach for productivity surplus and encourage the women audience in dairy farming as a way to develop the skills to be more empowered. Finally, the honorary MP confirmed logistic support for dairy industry from his end and announced that the government’s great initiative about school-feeding program would be used as a platform to raise additional demand for milk to foster more production. Following the official opening, the honorary MP visited the stalls to see their displays and encourage the participants.
Visitors were seemingly enthusiastic to gather information and clarify their confusion from different stalls about dairy farming. They were keeping leaflets of all the input industries for future use.
After three days of great success the fair ended with a closing event including crest distribution, cultural program by surrounding school students and closing words from a CARE Bangladesh representative.
