Emergency Food Support for Aila, River Erosion and Monga Victims

USAID extended support to CARE Bangladesh to reduce the suffering of cyclone Aila, river erosion and monga affected populations through food rations. CARE Bangladesh in collaboration with its partner organizations is distributing 2542 MT of food (Wheat, Vegetable Oil and Yellow Peas) among 42,917 families.
The Aila affected areas in which distribution taking place were Shyamnagar and Ashasuni Upazila of Satkhira district and Koyra Upazila of Khulna district. 38,255 families of approximately 210,400 poor and extreme poor people will be receiving a total of 2,268 MT food commodities (Wheat - 1,913.832824 MT, Vegetable Oil - 207.0954420 MT & Yellow Peas - 148.431600 MT) plus.
4,662 families of approximately 26,000 poor and extreme poor people in a total of 56 Unions in 19 Upazilas of Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat received 274 MT food commodities (Wheat - 233 MT, Vegetable Oil - 17 MT & Yellow Peas 24 MT) plus. These families are river erosion and monga affected people in the char regions of CARE Bangladesh's SHOUHARDO program.
This distribution will continue till 27 December 2009.
