A team of European Union delegations, Meher Nigar Bhuiyan, Programme Manager, Resilient Livelihoods and Food Security and Nutrition, Margherita Capalbi, Programme Manager, Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, and Laura Cecchi, Programme Manager, Finance and Contracts, visited different project activities of the Joint Action for Nutrition Outcome (JANO) project in Rangpur and Nilphamari. The team visited the Union Development Coordination Committee (UDCC), discussed the planning process of the Union Nutrition action plan, and observed a model vegetable garden at Union Parishad premises. Then they watched the Community Support Group (CSG) and Community Clinic activities and other interventions in schools such as adolescent corner and climate-smart vegetable garden. Later on, they visited the Theater for Development (TfD) show and climate-smart high-value nutrition vegetable garden at the homestead, along with its ICT-based interventions. After that, they discussed with pregnant and lactating women and women entrepreneurs. The visitors met District Nutrition Coordination Committee members and discussed overall updates on the nutrition situation and the District annual nutrition plan. They were invited to the DC office and met with Md. Asif Ahasan, District Commissioner and President, District Nutrition Coordination Committee, Rangpur. The visitors were accompanied by Aamanur Rahman, Program Director-ERPP, CARE Bangladesh, and Afroz Mahal, Director Program Management and Implementation, Plan International Bangladesh, Dr. Md. Shahid Uz Zaman, Executive Director, ESDO, and other regional colleagues from the JANO team.
The JANO project is funded by the European Union in Bangladesh and co-funded by the Austrian Development Agency and being implemented by CARE Bangladesh, Plan International Bangladesh and Eco Social Development Organization -ESDO. The objective of the project is to contribute in ending malnutrition of Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) together with addressing the nutritional needs of children under five years of age, and adolescent girls. The project is closely working with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) at the national, regional and local levels government platform, to support the effective implementation of the National Plan of Action for Nutrition 2 (NPAN 2).
