Implemented by CARE Bangladesh, USAID Bangladesh's PRERONA project, has set up hand wash stations to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Union Health and Family Welfare Centres (UHFWC), UNO Office and Upazila Health Complex (UHC) in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar. The prject has also provided robust risk communication to share information on COVID-19 to provide actionable guidance to help protect public health, through the distribution of COVID-19 prevention posters. This is to raise awareness of and protection from the virus, promote healthy behaviour in communities and sharing of correct information to promote prevention.
World Health Organization (WHO) has advised to wash hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water to protect yourself and to prevent further spreading the virus to others. Global health experts have stated that one of the most important ways to prevent catching COVID-19 is through regular and effective hand hygiene.
Promoting Resilience to Risks of Natural Hazards (PRERONA) supports communities in Cox’s Bazar to anticipate and be resilient to natural hazards and disasters. Through physical improvements to Multi-Purpose Cyclone Shelters (MPCS), communities will have safe, accessible shelter and school infrastructure that is adapted to natural hazards that reduces disaster risk. In addition, through local capacity building, communities will be better able to plan for disasters in order to increase resilience, reduce climate change impact and ensure continuity of education. The program will support the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), particularly the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and local government, to maintain facilities that are essential to the disaster preparedness of communities in Cox’s Bazar.
